This painting, "Mohini and Rukmangada to kill his own son," by the iconic Indian artist Raja Ravi Varma (1848–1906), captures a deeply dramatic and agonizing moment from Hindu mythology, primarily recounted in the Narada Purana.
The artwork depicts the climax of a divine test of devotion and dharma. King Rukmangada, a fervent devotee of Lord Vishnu, had taken a solemn vow to fast on the holy day of Ekadashi. Lord Indra, jealous of the king's piety, sent the beautiful celestial enchantress, Mohini, to tempt him and break his vow.
